A Simple Closet Upgrade That Changed the Whole Room
Sometimes, it is the smallest missing detail that changes the way an entire room feels.

The closet originally had sliding doors, but they kept coming off track. Eventually, the client removed them but held onto the doors. Jacob found a veneer she loved, updated the existing doors, and installed a new track system so they would finally slide correctly. Reusing the original doors helped give the closet a fresh new look while keeping costs down.
How the Barn Door Was Installed
Step 1: Evaluate the space
Jacob first looked at the closet opening and the surrounding wall space to understand what was causing the problem and what would work best for the update.
Step 2: Measure the opening
Jacob measured the closet opening and checked the existing doors to make sure everything would fit and slide properly once the new system was installed.
Step 3: Adjust the opening and add a header
Once the measurements were confirmed, it became clear that the opening was about two inches too tall. To correct that, Jacob adjusted the opening and added a header. This brought the proportions down to the right size and gave the closet a more finished look.
Step 4: Choose and apply the veneer
Instead of replacing the doors completely, Jacob found a veneer the client really liked and applied it to the existing doors. This gave them a fresh, updated look while also helping keep costs down.
Step 5: Install the new track system
After the opening was corrected and the doors were updated, Jacob installed a new track system designed to keep the doors aligned and sliding the way they should.
Step 6: Reinstall and adjust the doors
He then reinstalled the doors and adjusted them so they sat correctly, moved smoothly, and covered the opening the way they were supposed to.
Step 7: Finish the space
The finished result made the closet feel like a complete part of the room again. What had once felt frustrating and unfinished became functional, polished, and visually intentional.

Why Upgrades Like This Matter
That is the thing about home upgrades like this: they are not always about doing more. Sometimes they are about doing the right thing, which is one of Jacob’s top priorities on every job. One thoughtful improvement can completely shift how a space looks, works, and feels day to day.
For Jacob, that is what projects like this are really about. Not just installing something new, but solving a problem in a way that makes the home feel more complete and intentional. Whether it is a barn door, trim, fixtures, or another repair, the goal is always the same: take something that feels unfinished and do the job the right way.
By the time this project was finished, the whole room felt different. The closet no longer looked like something missing from the space. It looked intentional, functional, and complete.
Here's what the client had to say:
I had an outdated closet with doors that constantly came off the rails, making it frustrating to use and impossible to see all of my clothes. I knew I wanted a barn-style door that would function better and give me full access to my closet, but I wasn't sure how to make it happen. Jacob researched different options and came up with a creative solution- repurposing my old closet door into a stunning custom barn door. The final result not only works perfectly, but it completely transformed the space and exceeded my expectations.
That reaction says a lot about the impact of the project. It was a simple upgrade, but it changed how the entire room came together.
